Local Election 2015

Alan James Ashworth

Alan James Ashworth

Green Party
Milnrow & Newhey Ward

I’m delighted to have been selected as the Green Party candidate for Milnrow and Newhey, an area which I’ve known since my childhood in Heywood. Having spent several years working and living overseas in America, Ireland and Germany, I returned to my roots a little over ten years ago and chose to make Milnrow my home.

I’m married with three children, all at different stages in the local education system. As an engineer, factory worker and trade union member, I can understand the concerns of ordinary working people. As a motorist, cyclist and parent I’m especially aware of the problems we face as a result of having “our own” motorway junction, with its associated damage to roads, congestion and safety concerns.

It goes without saying that any councillor should be active, approachable, and dedicated to the community they serve. In addition to those qualities I believe I can offer the area a fresh perspective, both personally as a result of my experience of other cultures and other ways of life, and politically as a representative of the Green Party’s alternative to the business-as-usual approach of the establishment parties.

In particular, I would take every opportunity to push for Rochdale Council to declare the borough “frack-free”, and would campaign for us to become leaders in the introduction of energy-saving technologies and local, renewable energy generation in schools and other public buildings in the area.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Together, we can make the world a better place.

Vote for what you believe in. Vote Green.
