Firstly I would like to thank the Rochdale Liberal Democrats for selecting me as their representative for the Balderstone and Kirkholt ward in the forthcoming local elections.
I was born and brought up in Rochdale and I am proud of it. I spent my younger years living on the Turf Hill estate with my parents and two younger brothers. Unfortunately, my mother passed away when I was 22 years old and I had to take responsibility for the household, looking after my father and my two younger brothers. I believe this made me the person I am today, a strong willed dedicated person who puts 100% into everything I do.
After my brothers were older I got a house on the Kirkholt estate where I lived for 10 years. I still have many friends on the estate that are always giving me insights to the problems or concerns that they have and I am only too happy to help them. In the late seventies I bought a house in Greenfield Street and I sent my son to Balderstone School and later onto university, so it saddens me to see Balderstone School closing. Living in the ward helps me to know what is going on and I regularly attend PACT meetings and the first forum meeting.
In my working life I started out as a machinist in bedding, at the age of thirty I was supervisor then a floor manager. My last job was as a manager in a local bedding company where I was responsible for twenty-five people on a daily basis. When I retired I went back to work as a machinist. Now I have more time to help others out in our community and I have become a very active campaigner through the Liberal Democrats. My main priorities for our area are the fight against crime, for further regeneration and for a greener Balderstone & Kirkholt. If I am elected I promise to work hard alongside the two other Lib Dem Councillors in our ward to make Balderstone & Kirkholt a better place to live in for all.
On the first of May I hope that you will give me your support so that I can support you for the next four years.
