Local Election 2016

Peter Joinson

Peter Joinson

Labour Party
South Middleton Ward

I have had the privilege to represent South Middleton residents for the last four years since l was first elected as a Councillor in 2012. I believe it is important your local councillors are both accountable and responsive.

Living locally, I share many of your concerns about our area and l am always available when people have an issue they need to raise.

The local services that you use are the same services that I use.

Along with my fellow South Middleton Councillors l hold two surgeries a month and can be reached by phone on 0161 654 6656. lf I am out please leave a message.

Over the last four years, with your support, I have been an active member of Middleton Township at a time of crucial change.

The council has faced massive politically motivated cuts imposed by the Conservative Government and l have been active in defending services in Middleton. I have defended Sure Start Centres, Adult Care Services and Library provision from cuts. Along with my fellow ward councillors we have prevented the closure of Rhodes Youth Centre and I have fought to retain the walk-in centre provision in Middleton.

A major part of my working life was in in the NHS, my professional background is in general, intellectual disability and mental health nursing. I have worked on the front line directly supporting people with a wide range of needs and also held senior executive and non-executive board level roles. I have also worked in a business development capacity in the voluntary and independent health and social care sectors and I bring this experience to my role as a councillor. I know how vital front line health and social care services are for individual people requiring support and their families and carers.

Labour has launched its local manifesto. Our priorities are to improve our schools, make our town cleaner and greener and to attract more jobs and firms to the borough. You can read the full manifesto here:

Thank you for taking the time to read my election pitch. A vote for me on the 5th May would be a vote for someone who has the knowledge and experience to stand up for Middleton, to stand up for you as residents and to defend our town and public services.
