Local Election 2010

Frank Cooper

Frank Cooper

Liberal Democrat Party
North Middleton Ward

In the Middleton North ward by-election in 2007, the Lib Dems came within 35 votes of defeating Labour, with the Conservatives a distant third. For the past six months we have been working hard across the ward helping local residents get the best out of the Council.

Two weeks ago I highlighted the problems disabled drivers are having parking in the town centre. At the Middleton Township in March, we were assured that disabled badge holders could continue to park in the usual place at the bottom of Wood Street. This has turned out not to be the case and many residents have been issued with parking tickets. I am now leading the campaign for the parking tickets to be rescinded.

Middleton Lib Dems’ priorities will be:

Better Roads and Pavements

  • A yearly programme of road resurfacing to keep our highway network in reasonable condition.
  • Facilities for our young people .
  • Middleton needs better facilities for young people run by young people. More projects should help build bridges between young and old.

Protecting our environment

  • We will continue to promote the option of blue bins for paper and cardboard.
  • Champion a cleaner, greener environment in our local communities.
  • Creating a safe network of routes for walkers and cyclists.

A stronger voice for local people

  • Support residents regardless of their political beliefs get the best out of Middleton Township.
  • Working closely with the police to reduce anti-social behaviour.
  • Trying to secure more funds for local priorities.
