I am originally from Newcastle but I have lived in Rochdale since 1965. I worked for the former STC now called Nortel Networks until early retirement in 2000 after 30 years service. I now do voluntary work for Age Concern as a handyman. I have also done 10 years as a Special Police Constable.

If elected I would work hard to represent the interests of everyone in Smallbridge and Firgrove and do my utmost to promote and encourage a peoples charter through locally held surgeries and using email and telephone as a means of communication.

One of the main concerns is that of litter, graffiti and general neglect, that is why I feel strongly that the Council should employ a designated street cleaner for our area who would remove the litter and ensure that street ‘furniture’, road and pavement repairs are all dealt with and resolved quickly.

The high level of Council Tax, which is now one of the highest in Greater Manchester, is also of concern, especially for the retired. The Council Tax should not be so high and there should be a further reduction for the retired, which this year would have meant no increase in Tax. Unfortunately the Lib Dems would not support this.

My priorities if elected will be:

  • A lower Council Tax.
  • A tax discount for over 60’s.
  • Cleaner streets.
  • More police on the beat.
  • Pavement and footpaths repaired and maintained to a high standard.
