Local Election 2008

Susan Coates

Labour Party
North Heywood Ward

Address
76 Hind Hill Street
Heywood
OL10 1AN

My name is Susan Coates and I am a native of Heywood, like my parents, grandparents and great grandparents.

I have lived in Heywood all my life, my children were born in Heywood, brought up in Heywood and attended school in Heywood. I consider myself a true 'Heywoodite'.

I can well remember the period before 1974, when Heywood had its own council, its own Mayor, our own municipal offices and services for our town were controlled locally. We had our own identity and total control of our own destiny. I strongly believe this is something we must return to in Heywood.

I began my working life as a midwife in 1966 and I was privileged to be trained by our local community midwife Joan McNally, many Heywoodites will still remember her with affection and admiration. I certainly remember Joan, she brought me into the world when I was born in Adelaide Street 22 years earlier.

Over the years I have been involved in my local church, the schools which my children attended and more recently I have become heavily involved in local events affecting our town.

I would like to lead the way to giving Heywood back our own identity and ensure that our local voices are heard.

I support the local Heywood Manifesto, launched by myself and the local Labour party.

I stand for:

  • Direct power back in Heywood.
  • Cleaning our streets every week.
  • Improving our roads and pavements.
  • Respect for the family and our elderly.
  • Heywood schools for Heywood pupils.
  • The police back patrolling our streets.
  • Return of weekly collections of our bins.
  • A cleaner and safer environment.

I am Susan Coates, Heywood through and through.

I am asking North Heywood residents to give me the honour of representing our town on the 1 May.
