It is now thirteen years since I first won a by-election and I am still as keen as ever.
It’s exciting times for West Middleton and there is still much to do. Millions have been invested to bring the Bowlee Park properties up to standard. New build homes have sold like hot cakes. However, Langley is now a victim of its own success, and where six or seven years ago nobody wanted to move on to the estate there is now a massive demand for social and affordable housing which we have to address. Houses directly for rent and schemes like the Shared Ownership on Hollins have to be looked at for Langley.
I am also an avid opponent of two issues that affect the whole of Middleton, namely the Toll Tax and the proposed two weekly bin collection by the Liberal Democrats.
On the positive side I am looking forward to the opening of the Middleton Arena and the new Tesco. In fact when the hypermarket was first proposed I said: I want somewhere where I can go in for a can of beans and come out dressed to kill.
