I married Ralph in 1972 and in the same year I moved to Milnrow. I was voted onto our council in 1990 for Milnrow and Newhey. During that time I have served on Social Services, the Planning Committee, the Education Committee and Scrutiny Committee, the Pennines Township including the Chair, Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Mayor 2000/01 and I am presently the Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Rochdale Council for the second year.

In our ward, I serve on the Governing body of Newhey Community School, on the Management Committee of Butterworth Hall, Chair of Trustees at Ellenroad Engine House, Trustee on Charles Lane Pre-School, Milnrow and the Abracadabra Pre-School, Newhey.

I have been instrumental in saving our library, now one of the top performing libraries in Rochdale. I took on the Royal Mail when they tried to close down our Post Office in Milnrow - we won! The Government are now trying the same in Newhey and I am prepared to take them on again.

At the request of residents, our Cabinet agreed to remove the charges on bulky item removals and car parking for disabled drivers. We have come up with a new blue badge scheme for people with short term disablement, helping that person get out and about to help with their recovery. My ‘hubbys’ heart attack, in 2006, helped me realise what a lot of people in the Rochdale borough go through on a daily basis.

On a personnel note, the jewel in our crown is our Memorial Park and all the hard work that as gone in to it; over the next few months more work will take place to make the park experience even better. A special thanks to all involved for taking my vision and turning it into reality.

I consider myself privileged to have served the residents of Milnrow and Newhey and I hope that local residents again back me to continue working for local people.
