Local Election 2011

Donald I Wight

Liberal Democrat Party
Healey Ward

I would like to ask you to vote for me.

I have lived on Brookdale in Lower Healey for the last 13 years, having been in the Rochdale area since 1975. My wife, Margaret, who is presently a Governor at Shawclough C.P.School, and I have been married for over 40 years, and have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.

I know how hard it is to run a small business with 8 employees through a recession. I had that experience in the 1990s.

I know what it’s like to be made redundant, and have to consider retraining to have a chance of getting work again – that’s why I’m studying at college to be a Lecturer in Business Studies.

I know what it’s like to be running a charity to get long-term unemployed men, mostly ex-offenders, back to the workplace, and struggling to find funding for what many would consider was meeting an essential need.

I know what it’s like for families under pressure from financial strains, broken relationships, and loneliness. I’ve been in Christian church leadership since 1992, and have heard many heart-breaking stories.

But above all, I am an optimist. I believe in Rochdale. I believe in a better future for everyone. I believe that the town centre regeneration will be a catalyst for a new wave of growth and prosperity .

I believe that we are responsible for our own lives, but the quality of our lives is improved significantly as we practice unselfish help and kindness for each other in our communities.

I believe that by voting for me to serve you on Rochdale Council, we can take positive steps towards these goals. We can make our area safer, greener and cleaner than ever.

On May 5th, please put your ‘X’ next to my name – Iain Wight.
