Local Election 2011

Phillip Burke

Phillip Burke

Labour Party
West Middleton Ward

May I take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Labour candidate for West Middleton in the Council Election on Thursday May 5th.

I’m a 41 year old married father of one and I was born and raised on Langley. I was educated locally at the Cardinal Langley School and Rochdale Technical College. I work as a hotel night manager in Manchester.

My priorities for West Middleton are:

  • To improve the local environment for all to enjoy. Protecting our green belt and supporting Bowlee Country Park and Truffet Park. This also means addressing the issue of poor road surfaces, pot holes and broken pavements, especially on Langley.
  • To tackle crime and disorder, especially anti-social behaviour.
  • Protect and improve services for elderly and disabled people.
  • Improve training and skills to help unemployed and low paid young people.
  • Push for more affordable local housing on Langley.
  • Tackle the problems of heavy lorries in Birch and Bowlee using Heywood Old Road.

I will hold regular advice surgeries across the ward every month and I will work alongside local residents, community and voluntary organisations for the benefit of all our local community. We need to push harder to get a bigger slice of the financial pie from Rochdale Council.

I will put the needs of West Middleton ward before all else and I will always be against anything that I feel does not benefit the people of our communities of Langley, Birch, Silver Birch, Bowlee, Hebers, Barleyfield area and the Durnford St/Mellalieu St area.

Please do me the honour of casting your vote for me on May 5th.

Thank you

Phil Burke
