Local Election 2012

Pat  Colclough

Pat Colclough

Liberal Democrat Party
Balderstone & Kirkholt Ward

It’s been a great pleasure being your local Councillor and campaigner over the last four years. I am proud to have served the area where I live and have lived for thirty eight years.

Over my time as a Councillor I am happy that:

  • Balderstone Park has flourished thanks to the funding achieved for a new perimeter fence, a new youth playground and new football posts;
  • Shaw Road was not picked as the new Cemetery Site;
  • the nuisance activities on Lower Lane will be curbed when the road is closed to vehicles as a result of funding from the area forum;
  • there will be an examination into whether additional car parking provision is needed on Great Gates Road, near to Holy Family primary School;
  • there will be the continuation of vital youth activities in a new Youth Zone on the Strand in Kirkholt;
  • I was able to buy a new computer for the elderly residents of Margaret Ward Court, so they can access services online;
  • new road resurfacing happened on Hill Top Drive, Queen Victoria Street and Crompton Avenue;
  • A Kirkholt bid for £4.7million has made the Council's list of priority regeneration Schemes;
  • I supported the installation of a replacement bench for the villagers of Burnedge;
    there will be safety improvements introduced to the highway in and out of the Fieldway sheltered residential Complex, off Broad Lane;
  • I was able to get installed additional rubbish bins at Springhill Playing Fields and new grit bins for Hill Top Drive, Digby Road and Hurst Meadow;
  • I was a regular attendee at the valuable Balderstone and Krikholt Area Forum and local Police and Community Together meetings;
  • I was able to support my local residents's associations by attending meetings at Arnold Bagnall Court, Fieldway sheltered scheme, Stoneyvale Court, and at the base belonging to the Tenants and Residents around Kirkholt on the Strand;
  • I continue to be an active member of the Friends of Balderstone Park Group.

As a community we have achieved so much together, however there is still much work to do. I am currently campaigning for:

  1. A skate park for local young people, possibly at Balderstone Park.
  2. The regeneration of the shopping precinct on the Strand, Kirkholt.
  3. A brand new mooring point on Rochdale Canal at Sandbrook Business Park.
  4. The future use of the Balderstone Technical College site to include a community hub.

In this election, my fight isn’t against other parties; it’s for all the people of our community.

I hope that on Thursday 3 May you can come out and help me to continue to serve the area I live in.
