Labour Party
Castleton Ward

As a lifetime resident of Castleton I am passionate about ‘our village’ and its wonderful people.

I am proud to know many of the good people of Castleton who deserve better than the degeneration and lack of investment that over many years the council and their planners have given us.

Castleton has so much to offer its residents and businesses:

  • Four excellent primary schools
  • A vibrant Community centre
  • Instant access to the motorway system
  • A mainline railway station
  • A regular reliable bus service
  • The proposed extension of the East Lancs Railway and new station that could really revitalise the village and some of its businesses
  • A wonderful canal that winds its way from picturesque Slattocks down and through our village centre

Most importantly, we have a vibrant community spirit that I want to tap into to reverse some of the decline that we have seen over the years.

The ‘Friends of Carnegie’ project that is seeking to reclaim the old library for our community is evidence of the dynamism and enthusiasm that our residents have for the village and a desire to make things better.

We need new housing and a new vision. Together we can stop the needless
building of warehouses. Castleton already has far more than it needs.

We also need to encourage manufacturing firms to bring in real jobs for our people like those we had not that many years ago.

I spend a lot of time talking to and, more importantly, listening to residents and finding out about their concerns. Many of you tell me that you are concerned about anti-social behaviour caused by a minority of our youth. Why do they cause trouble? Being rebellious is part of growing up but causing intimidation and wanton damage is unacceptable. We must engage our youth and find ways of averting this serious problem. Hold youth forums where they can have their say and we might just learn something of their issues and find ways of solving them.

I have for many years been a Labour party member and involved myself in activities, residents associations, Forums, and other campaigns. These have given me many opportunities to be involved with the council and council officers. I feel that the time is right for me to continue the fight for a better Castleton from the inside to gain more impact than in the past and really affect decisions made for Castleton.

The state of our Town Centre must bring tears to all of us who are proud of our heritage and the cuts being made to care for the elderly and homeless is in need of a Borough approach to tackle.

Please vote for me you can be assured that I will work hard for everyone,
never lose focus and always put Castleton first.

Let’s stop the rot and put Castleton FIRST!
