Local Election 2012

Terry Linden

Labour Party
Milkstone & Deeplish Ward

I am proud to have been selected by the local Labour party as your Labour candidate for Milkstone & Deeplish ward at the local elections to be held on Thursday the 3rd of May 2012.

As an ex Labour cabinet councillor and an experienced community activist for many years, I am very proud to be given this opportunity to become the second Labour councillor, to assist Councillor Zaman in your ward. It will only happen with your vote for myself and Labour, to beat the TORIES!

I would like to thank all the constituents I have already met and for the reception and courtesy you have all shown to me. Your views on the issues which affect you and your families have confirmed my own beliefs of what the priorities for the short and long term improvement of our area.

My previous experience as a cabinet member and a member of the Housing Market Renewal executive (HMR) have given me a clear insight to the issues around housing and environmental issues. I have also represented the Labour Party on the local Cultural and Leisure Trust (L4L) since its inception over five years ago and the Borough Primary School Review, which again have helped me to know and understand the issues that affect this ward.

Knowing the issues helps but what matters is the policy and direction of our Labour Councillors. The Labour Group are now the council ruling party, after the TORY/LIB DEM coalition walked away, leaving a £64 million efficiency problem to be solved.

In the times of austerity the Labour group had very hard decisions to make after consultation with constituents. We have been successful in passing last year’s and this year’s balanced budgets. In comparison the previous TORY/LIB DEM coalition walked away and are now supporting THEIR national coalition’s government’s cuts to our Local Council. Add to that their attempts to destroy the NHS and GP’s Clinical services and their TAX RISES for pensioners, who can lose up to £322 per year but millionaires can get a tax cut of over £40,000 per year!

And what does our previous Lib/Dem now TORY Councillor say about all of this in his campaign leaflet, NOTHING ABOUT POLICIES, NOTHING ABOUT CHANGING PARTIES, only that as a now out of control TORY representative, he will be pleased to help you? Seven photos and his pleasure to help you, will not keep front line services, Community and Children Centre and Senior Citizens are the needy provided for.

The Labour controlling group, which I hope to join, have policies and the commitment to achieve the needs of this community and borough. It will not be easy, especially with all the changes daily announced by this TORY/LIB DEM COALITION GOVERNMENT?

Your choice on May the 3rd is a second experienced Labour Councillor for your Ward, to assist in the work in progress, or a Tory Councillor, with a record of promises and none delivery and last time as voted in on LIB/DEM policies and now in his latest leaflet, has no TORY polices to tell you.

My pledges to you

If elected, I promise to use all my past experience and effort to improve the quality of life for all our constituents.

It is my proposal to be a champion for the under privileged and to fight for equality for all sections of our community.

With my fellow Councillor, to champion the voluntary sector, to keep services local and to maintain our community centres and children centres.

To be a champion of our local Heath and Care services and to support our local GP’s in saving the NHS and keeping services local.

To be an active supporter of all our local education and to champion better economic opportunities for all but especially the 18 to 24 year olds.

With my fellow Councillor to champion all ethnic groups and to take a personal input in championing the needs of the elderly.

To use my previous experience to assist individuals and groups to be able to participate in any internal or external funding they are entitled to apply for.
