Jean Ashworth

Conservative Party
Smallbridge & Firgrove Ward

I am pleased to once again represent Smallbridge & Firgrove Ward in the Local Elections on the 3rd May.

I have been married to Allan for 46 years I am a proud mum and grandma and we have lived in the same house on Hollow Spell for the past 44 years. I was raised on Clover Hall Crescent Belfield from the age of 5 years and attended Heybrook School.

I started work at Birch Hill in the Laundry department in 1977 then went to working nights as an Auxiliary nurse for 10 years whilst my children were growing up then moved to days before gaining my level 3 in nursing and moving to the Rochdale Infirmary on the closure of Birch Hill in 2001 it was before the move that I started campaigning as I knew then that major changes were happening regarding our hospital services and that worrying times were ahead of us. I retired in 2009 after 32 years service in the NHS.

I decided to stand for Council in 2004 I have always been outspoken and not afraid to speak my mind I care deeply about the area & community I live in and believe that I have made a difference to local issues in the last 8 years and will continue to do so in the future. The best thing about Smallbridge & Firgrove is definitely the people & the excellent work done for the community by the Community Centre and Tenants & Resident Associations which I have fully supported throughout the years as well as working closely with many agencies Police/Youth workers/Fire service and all council departments.

I have been an active campaigner to Save Our Hospital services and have led many campaigns organised public meetings and organised a rally which over 400 people attended from Rochdale Town Hall to the Rochdale Infirmary with a lone piper leading the way,I gave a 8000 named petition to full Council stating a vote of no confidence in the management of the Pennine Acute. We have been badly let down in this Borough regarding loss of vital hospital services which the Chief Executive of the Pennine Acute admitted were moved prematurely from the Infirmary before services were in place which has caused major suffering for many people and I will continue to challenge further cutbacks and fight for the return of a safer service I have always worked with all parties regarding this as health affects all of us and should remain non- political.

Please remember your postal vote is private to you do not hand it to anyone at your door or let anyone fill it in for you if you need help phone the elections office at Rochdale Town Hall 647474 or the Police if you have concerns it is an offence for anyone to ask you for it.

It is important people do take the time to vote as together we can continue to make a difference locally your vote is important for the community and I will always continue to keep in touch listen to local people and work all year round on local issues your vote for me is vital for Smallbridge & Firgrove on the 3rd May Vote for Jean Ann Ashworth I am here for you all year round and won't let you down.

Jean Ann Ashworth
Candidate Smallbridge & Firgrove.
