Local Election 2012

Jane E A Howard

Jane E A Howard

Conservative Party
West Heywood Ward

I am delighted to have been selected to represent West Heywood for the Conservatives at the local elections on Thursday 3rd May. Heywood people are proud of their identity and their community spirit and if elected I am committed to working and serving all residents in the ward.

I am married with two teenage daughters and have lived in the borough for 40 years, currently working as an Internal Communications Officer at Salford University.

I am passionate about encouraging community involvement and ensuring local people have a voice in decision-making. Having worked in local government, I am fully conversant with funding and policy issues and if elected will work with council officers to ensure West Heywood is not a forgotten area. I am also proud that as a Conservative, we managed to get the Council Tax frozen for a second-year running.

Your concerns are my concerns and local elections are about local issues. I am campaigning to ensure we have a proper street cleaning and grass-cutting service. This service has been severely savaged by the Labour-run Council in the cutbacks. It’s a proven fact that having a tidy neighbourhood in which we can all take pride, with clean streets and well-tended verges, helps cut crime and improves everyone’s quality of life. Bin collections are another issue which you’ve talked to me about, as some areas in the Ward have been overlooked and I would be determined to stand firm with the appropriate department to get these issues sorted.

I am also keen to work with local families to see what facilities they need in the area. As a working mother I know the reduction in Children’s Centres has hit families hard and I would be interested in looking at alternative solutions.

I am interested in education and have been a School Governor and am also a long standing member of our local church council. I am also a member of the Friends of Springfield Park. As a Conservative, I am obviously committed to retaining and improving our green spaces and to ensure that any more playing fields are not sold off for housing developments. Our children need these areas for sports facilities and to play.

I have been an active member of Heywood, Norden and Bamford Conservative Group for more than twenty years and am Branch Secretary. West Heywood needs a representative who has the time to listen to local people’s views and campaign on their behalf and I would be honoured to serve the Ward if you entrust me with your vote on Thursday 3rd May.
