I have lived in Rochdale for over six years.
I am a partner in an insurance brokerage that currently employs 32 staff with four UK offices and one overseas office. Additionally, I am the technical advisor to the the British Insurers Brokers Association representing over 2,500 independent brokers nationwide.
For over seven years I have been happily married to my wife Aisha who is a primary school teacher and we have two young children, Safiya and Eisa.
My voluntary work has included (locally):
- Fundraiser for the Manchester Insurance Institute, which gives financial aid to families in and around Greater Manchester to adapt their homes for disabled children.
- Committee Member of the Golden Mosque in Spotland.
Voluntary Work (nationally)
- Committee Member for the Mosque and Community Affairs Committee for the Muslim Council of Britain.
- Assisted in working with the Muslim community from the North of England in dealing with tackling extremism.
- Partnered with the NSPCC to deliver safeguarding training to ensure our children are protected and feel safe for charity organisations.
Spotland has seen itself fall behind other wards both in terms of local business and community spirit. It does not help also when the elected councillor, who I am standing against, missed nearly one in five meetings. Can you imagine not going into work every Monday, I doubt you would keep your job.
I want to build a strong community spirit in Spotland.
I have a business background and will happily nuture and develop our youth in order for them to be able to build their own businesses.
Additionally, I will push forward plans to enable existing businesses to develop and prosper by buying local.
Our youth need somewhere for recreational actives, let's work together to make this happen.
I will continue to support all charities and not-for-profit organisations and ensure awareness is raised for them.
