Local Election 2014

Neil Patrick Emmott

Neil Patrick Emmott

Labour Party
West Middleton Ward

I politely ask for your support in the council election on 22 May mostly on the basis of the work that I have done in your local community over the past 4 years.

Your 3 Labour councillors for West Middleton; Phil Burke, Lil Murphy and I work as a team to try and get the best results for the ward in what are very difficult times economically and financially.

  • I am totally against the destruction of green fields between Heywood and Middleton and around Langley Lane for any future development. We need to keep our green spaces and look after our environment for the benefit of the whole community.
  • Equally I am a passionate defender of Bowlee Country Park and I have successfully blocked attempts to encroach on the park with industrial development.
  • I have been a strong supporter of the vibrant voluntary sector in West Middleton and I have been key to obtaining funding for many groups: Demesne Community Centre, Burnside Community Centre, Langley Theatre Workshop, Status4All, Middleton Select Boxing Club, Middleton Gymnastics Club, Middleton Well Women Centre, Langley Community Leisure Garden and The Friends of Truffet Park.
  • I have dealt with many local issues in the ward, whether it was individual casework on behalf of residents or wider issues such as obtaining funding to stop flooding on Cartmel Walk, getting parking bays for disabled residents and supporting residents of Millbeck Gardens/Keswick Close in their dispute with Riverside Housing.
  • Locally, your Labour Council has put the biggest investment into Middleton’s roads for over 40 years. Many roads in West Middleton have already been resurfaced and there are more to come. The previous Lib Dem/Tory administration in Rochdale left Middleton’s roads in a disgraceful state and now Labour is tackling the issue. Labour has invested an additional £10 million into road resurfacing without putting a single penny more on your council tax.
  • Thanks to good financial management, this year your Labour councillors froze your council tax.We had one of the biggest cuts in the country in government grants from the Tory/Lib Dem Coalition Government, but we have managed to keep all our libraries and children’s centres open including Langley Surestart Centre. We have put new investment into Middleton Central Library and have improved Middleton Town Centre. Other councils nearby have been closing libraries, children’s centres and community centres - but Labour in Middleton has budgeted carefully to protect them.

I hope you will support me in the election so that I may continue to work for all the residents of Langley, Birch, Bowlee, Hebers, Silver Birch, Wood St/Barleyfield area and Durnford St/Mellalieu St area for another 4 years.
