Iain Gartside, the Conservative candidate for Heywood and Middleton said: “I came into politics to help people from all walks of life and that has been my guiding principle in this campaign. I love living in this region, the people are so passionate about their community and community matters.

“I want to be a strong local voice for the residents here. I will make the case for more, good secondary school places across the borough, so our young people can have the chance of a great start in life.

“The possible expansion of the Scout Moor wind farm and the Taylor Wimpey planning application on a ‘green lung’ area of Middleton are also worries for many people in our area – I will fight against these proposals.

“I have fought this campaign hard and I have fought to win. The Conservatives have a long-term economic plan to secure a brighter future for our local area. In just four years, the numbers claiming unemployment benefit are down – meaning more people have the security of regular pay packet, the deficit is down – so our economy is more stable, and more children are in good or outstanding schools – so they can get a good start in life. But there is much more still to do.

“We are also the only Party who are offering the British people a vote in an in/out referendum on the EU by the end of 2017, Labour and the Lib Dems won’t and UKIP can’t.

“I am determined to help the Conservative Party secure a majority Government in 2015, so David Cameron can finish the job he has started, turning our country around and securing a more secure future for everyone in Heywood and Middleton.”
