Austerlands 64 all out - Bamford-Fieldhouse 65-2 (Away)
On a glorious Sunday morning Bamford Fieldhouse under 13’s travelled to Austerlands CC, one of the highest grounds in the country at 1000+ feet above sea level. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first.
Bamford’s new opening attack of Joe Smith-Butler and Adam Deaville kept things tight with the home side scoring 11 runs off the first 4 overs. A change of bowling proved to be a good move with Alex Willis coming on for the 5th over and removing both opening batsmen in the same over. Deaville, making his debut, bowled a tidy spell of 3 overs, capturing 1 wicket for 12 runs.
The Bamford captain, not for the first time this season, ensured that all his players were involved in the game with every outfield player bowling at least 1 over. The Austerlands innings closed in the 16th over, all out for 64 and special mentions must go to Connor Wright who took 2 wickets for 1 run and leg spinner Adam Ahmed who had the remarkable figures of 3 overs, 3 maidens and 3 wickets for no runs.
The usually dependable opening partnership of Smith-Butler and Willis for once did not get their team off to a flying start with Willis being dismissed in the 2nd over for 1 with the score on 6.
This brought the reliable Danny Matthews to the crease and he and Smith-Butler put on a quickfire partnership of 33 in under 4 overs, Smith-Butler being particularly savage on the home bowlers hitting 7 fours before retiring on 33 not out with the score on 39. Matthews made 16 including 3 consecutive boundaries before falling leg before to Joubert. Hamza Mughal and Ahmed saw Bamford through to an 8 wicket victory with more than 10 overs to spare.
This was once again a great team performance making it 5 wins from 5 with every player involved, Tom Valentine picked up a wicket, Hamza Khalil took 2 difficult catches and Peter Dalton’s ground fielding was excellent.
