Bamford-Fieldhouse 93 all out - Droylsden 81-7 (Home)
On a blustery Sunday morning Bamford Fieldhouse Under 13’s entertained Droylsden. Bamford won the toss and elected to bat first.
After last weekend’s blip, normal service was resumed by the Bamford opening partnership of Joe Smith-Butler and Alex Willis with an exciting opening stand of 62 runs in 5 overs and 1 ball, when Smith-Butler had to retire with a quick fire 33 off 12 balls including six 4’s and one 6.
Unfortunately this triggered an alarming collapse in the under strength Bamford batting line up caused by 5 players being away on holiday. Willis was out 2 runs later, LBW to Blencoe for an excellent 28 which included six 4’s. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, Bamford being all out for 93 with more than half of their allocated overs unused. The only bright spot was a great innings from Ben Garside who made 24 before playing on to a Pritchard delivery.
Droylsden’s reply did not get off to the best of starts when Smith-Butler clean bowled Pritchard, the Droylsden captain, 2nd ball of the innings. Callum Belfield then removed the other opener, Blencoe in the 2nd over reducing the visitors to 8 for 2.
Bamford’s bowlers, with the exception Smith-Butler, did not bowl with enough discipline and this kept Droylsden in the game. Only two of the visiting batsmen made it into double figures, Kay with 12 and Robinson with 10 but with 43 extras, including 24 wides, conceded by the home team, the game was not decided until the final over which was splendidly bowled by Connor Wright. Smith-Butler was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 overs ,3 wickets for 11 runs.
Although the team was under strength and a win is a win as they say, if the Bamford team concede so many extras against a better team it could cost them dearly. The team now look forward to next weeks Cup match with their unbeaten record still intact with 6 wins from 6.
