Bamford-Fieldhouse 138 all out  -  Royton 120 all out (Home)

On a gloriously sunny June morning Bamford Fieldhouse under 13’s entertained a well drilled Royton side in a closely contested match.

Bamford won the toss and elected to bat first and found themselves two wickets down after only three balls of the first over with Tesz removing Alex Willis LBW and Danny Matthews bowled, both without scoring. Things did not improve for the home side in the next over when Ben Garside was dismissed by Gray for 1, with score on 5 runs for 3 wickets.

Adam Ahmed came in at number five and together with Joe Smith-Butler they started trying to repair the early damage putting on a partnership of 35 in three overs with Smith-Butler the main aggressor retiring on 32 not out, including seven 4’s, with the team score on 40. Charlie Lloyd-Jones was next in and he and Ahmed put on a further 37 before Ahmed was bowled by Casey for 5 in the eleventh over with the team total on 77-4.

Oliver Bonynge joined Lloyd-Jones who retired soon after making his first ever 30 not out including two 6’s and four 4’s. Deaville was next in and he and Bonynge batted superbly putting on 40 runs in five overs with both batsmen finding the boundary at regular intervals. Bonynge was the next batsman to fall making 12 with two well struck 6’s.

Connor Wright joined Deaville and they continued the good work putting on 19 before Deaville also retired for the first time with an excellent 32 including seven 4’s. Bamford’s innings finally closed on 138 in the nineteenth over, a fine effort recovering from the perilous position of 5-3 with the whole team showing great character.

Bamford opened the bowling with the contrasting styles of the pacey Smith-Butler and the leg spin of Ahmed. This proved to be a great tactical move as the two bowlers took an early wicket apiece, removing both of the Royton opening batsmen. Ahmed took a further two wickets, Willis and Matthews chipped in with a wicket each leaving the visitors struggling on 52 – 6 in the eleventh over before Snape and Casey led the fightback putting on a 45 run partnership in under five overs when Snape retired on 30 not out.

The Royton tail wagged but came up eighteen runs short finishing on 120 all out. This was Bamford’s toughest test to date and the team showed great character in coming through it to keep their unbeaten record intact with nine wins from nine games.
