Bamford-Fieldhouse 121-6  -  Saddleworth 'B' 95-6 (Away)

Bamford won the toss and their regular opening partnership of Alex Willis and Joe Smith-Butler yet again got their team off to a great start putting on 41 in 3.4 overs when Smith-Butler retired on 31 not out off 12 balls including four 4’s and two 6’s.

Any thoughts Bamford may have had that this was going to be a free scoring run feast quickly disappeared as they managed just 17 runs from the next seven overs and lost four wickets in the process. Wright, Saddleworth’s opening bowler coming back strongly having gone for 30 runs in his first two overs conceded only 3 in his next two overs and took the important wickets of Willis for 9 and the no.3 batsman, Charlie Lloyd-Jones for 2.

Bamford were in a bit of trouble at 50-4, but a great partnership of 62 between Ben Garside (32 not out) and Callum Belfield (26) brought the visitors back in to the game.

Bamford’s innings closed on 121-6 off their 20 overs, probably 20-30 runs below their target but credit must go to the home team who came back well after Smith-Butlers early onslaught with some accurate bowling, Parsons picking up 3-17 off his four overs.

The home team’s reply got off to the worst possible start when Smith-Butler cleaned bowled Parsons the very first ball of the innings. Bamford were once again ble to share the bowling around using eight different bowlers but Saddleworth’s batsmen all hung around with Marland top scoring on 16 not out and although they struggled to keep up with the required run rate, Bamford tried their best to keep Saddleworth in the game by giving away 27 extras in the home side’s final total of 95-6.

Although this was Bamford’s eighth straight win they need to improve greatly on this showing if they are to keep their unbeaten record intact when they entertain second placed Royton next Sunday.
