Bamford-Fieldhouse 155-6   -  Shaw 80 all  out (Home)

Bamford-Fieldhouse under 13’s match at home against Shaw was played on a sunny but cold and blustery Sunday morning. Shaw won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The opening partnership of Smith-Butler and Willis continued where they left off the previous two weeks with an excellent opening partnership of 65 in 9 overs. Smith-Butler was first to go, adjudged LBW on 23 which brought Adam Ahmed to the crease.

Soon after, Willis completed his 3rd consecutive retirement with 30 not out which included four 4’s and a big 6 which landed on the clubhouse roof. The in-form Danny Matthews came in next but his partnership with Ahmed only produced 1 run when Ahmed was caught by Needham off the bowling of Green for without troubling the scorers.

Hamza Mughal came in at no.5 for Bamford and he and Matthews put on 21 runs in only 3 overs until Mughal was bowled by Benson for 9. Callum Belfield playing his first league match of the season joined Matthews at the crease and they kept the momentum going with a splendid partnership of 43 runs in only 4 overs before Belfield was run out for 10, bringing Ben Garside to the middle to join Matthews. Their partnership was short lived when Matthews went LBW to Gibson for an excellent 29.

The innings closed on a very competitive total of 155 with Garside still there on 10 not out and Tom Valentine 1 not out.

Bamford’s opening bowlers of Smith-Butler and Belfied both bowled with excellent pace and accuracy, not allowing the Shaw innings to get off to flyer, as had happened the previous week against Heyside. After 4 overs the visitors had been reduced to 14 for 2 with both bowlers picking up a wicket apiece.

Willis was first change in the 5th over and clean bowled the dangerous looking Pickering with his very first ball for 11. The Shaw innings never recovered from Bamford’s early onslaught and they eventually finished on 80 all out with useful contributions from Benson (18), Stott (11) and Needham (10).

Bamford’s captain used the opportunity to give all nine outfielders a bowl with the wickets evenly spread out.

This was another excellent win for Bamford making it three league wins from three, which should give them great confidence going into next week’s 1st round cup tie.
