Bamford-Fieldhouse 132-9  -  Uppermill 42 all out (Home)

Bamford-Fieldhouse under 13’s match against Uppermill managed to dodge the showers on an overcast, damp, but mild Sunday morning.

After Uppermill won the toss and invited Bamford to bat first, Joe Smith-Butler and Alex Willis opened the innings, and put on an excellent partnership of 40 in quick time with both batsmen finding the boundary at regular intervals. Smith-Butler was the first to go, getting a bottom edge and dragging the ball on to the stumps, trying to pull a short delivery.

This brought Adam Ahmed to the crease who continued the excellent work finding the boundary regularly. Willis retired having made an excellent 30 not out and Danny Matthews joined Ahmed at the wicket. Ahmed made a brisk 20 before being dismissed.

Ben Garside joined Matthews and made a quickfire 20 before losing his wicket. Bamford then lost a couple of quick wickets and with the last two at the crease, Matthews completed an excellent 31 not out, the innings closing on 132.

All of Bamford’s top five batsmen made it to 20 with Willis and Matthews reaching 30 before retiring.

Bamford shared the bowling out against a young Uppermill team with every outfield player bowling at least 2 overs. Rhodes made an excellent 16 for Uppermill, while Williams defiantly protected his wicket for over 40 deliveries. Uppermill were finally dismissed in the last over for 42, with Peter Dalton picking up 3 wickets.

Both teams deserve praise for playing the game in an excellent spirit.

Bamford played extremely well as a team, something they will need to do as there will no doubt be tougher challenges ahead.
