Saddleworth 'A' 56-9 - Bamford-Fieldhouse 58-1 (Home)
After a number of closely fought matches between these two sides in which Saddleworth have come out on top, Bamford pulled out a great team performance to win by 9 wickets. Despite heavy rain in the afternoon, the match was saved due to the pitch having been covered by the Bamford groundsman, although it had to be reduced to 18 overs per side. Saddleworth won the toss and decided to bat in sunny conditions.
Accurate bowling from Bamford’s opening pair, Ahmed Nawaz and Joe Smith-Butler saw the visitors restricted to 18 for 5 off the first 10 overs with Smith-Butler picking up 4 wickets for only 9 runs. His fifth over was a triple wicket maiden. Joe Mitchell and Abbu Alam chipped in with a couple of wickets each and Saddleworth ended their innings on 56-9. Bamford’s ground fielding was excellent and a special mention must go to Danny Matthews who stopped two boundaries and took a catch for good measure. Bamford were unable to dismiss Ben Corbett and he ended with 29 not out.
Smith-Butler and Alex Willis got the Bamford innings off to a good start taking a number of singles off some good bowling from Boyle and Scott and they soon accelerated up to 5 per over . Smith-Butler went for 28 after skying a Collier-Hyde delivery to Scott and it was left to Willis (20) and Matthew Buckley (5) to see the game out for a well deserved victory.
