Early History Blue Pits Station

From the best information to hand, the station Blue Pits for Heywood, later from 1875 called Castleton, was opened on 15 September 1839.      Blue Pits for Heywood was originally connected to Heywood by a horse drawn rail vehicle until 1848 when the line was opened through from Liverpool and it then became just Blue Pits.   The 175th Anniversary of the opening of a station in Castleton will be 15 September 2014.
