Award for Commitment to Investing in Staff
The commitment of local employers to staff training and development was celebrated in style at Bury College last week.
Now in its third year, Bury College’s prestigious ‘Celebration of Employer Partnerships’ evening recognised over 70 local companies for their dedication to training over the past year.
Examples of three local businesses that received awards in recognition of their commitment to training were O2, Smithfield Murray and Gregory Couzens.
Gregory Couzens Hair Salon in Rochdale received an award for Commitment to Investing in Staff via Apprenticeships. Owner of the salon, Greg Couzens said, “Training is our lifeblood and something we take seriously. Bury College has a proven track record of exemplary standards and I am proud to be part of a creative winning team.”
The event was held in the College’s 3CZons restaurant and awards were given in four categories; Commitment to Training and Development Initiatives, Commitment to Investing in Staff via Apprenticeships, Commitment to Investing in Staff via Train to Gain, and Commitment to Employer and Union Partnership Development.
Lauran Chatburn CBE, Principal and Chief Executive Officer, Bury College Corporation said, “We were delighted to welcome so many employers we work with to celebrate their commitment to training and development and would like to thank them all for their support over the past year. Investment in training and development is becoming increasingly important. By working closely with employers and building strong relationships we can provide training solutions that will help employers to stay ahead of the competition.”
As part of the evening, employers enjoyed a drinks reception, which included music provided by 2nd year, National Diploma Music student, Peter Beck. This was followed by a three course meal prepared and served by Bury College catering students. Entertainment was provided by 2nd Year, Performing Arts Students, Joe Mannion and Jenny Horniman. Jenny sang to Adele's recent hit "Someone Like You" and Joe danced a contemporary style interpretation of the song.
Carrie McKenzie, Executive Director Development at Bury College said, “Our awards evening highlights the amazing work we do with local employers. We work closely with employers to provide unique training solutions. Our support, experience and expertise can help local companies to identify and develop training that is personally tailored to meet the needs of their business, which ultimately leads to an increase in business performance and profit. Our training is designed to fit in with day-to-day business requirements and I would encourage companies, no matter what sector or size, to contact Bury College Business Solutions to find out how we can help them to develop the skills of their employees and maximise their return on investment.”
