"It's All About Me, Me, Me".....
It’s all about me, me, me...
I would say about myself that I am interested in people. Some would say I am nosey. I would say I like to know what’s going on, to understand situations. Others would say I am just nosey. I would, really, have to agree with them! Various suggestions have been made about profiling people in our church mag, or “what I will be doing this time tomorrow” type articles to allow us to share or get to know each other better. Or just provide us with the opportunity to be nosey! So in an effort to inspire you, my dear reader, to put pen to paper what follows is an interview of Me by Me.
Name: Depending on how you know me: Kate Griffin, Kate Bentley, Kate Griffin-Bentley, Katherine, Katy, Auntie, ‘Daughter of mine’, Sis. And my favourite, Mummy. People who know me from Primary school age still refer to me as Katy Griffin. Mrs Bentley can still draw a blank from me before I realise they are talking to me! For most things I made the decision to keep my maiden name. It’s very confusing. I think I’ll settle on Kate Griffin-Bentley! (KGB!)
Age: Verging on being embarrassing to my eldest daughter, young enough to fall off a roundabout and not need a hip replacement.
Job /employment/ main time spent doing: I never understand women who say they are full time mothers as if there is any other sort of mother! I am a mum of 2 girls, Evie who is 7 going on 17 and Thea who is three. I also work 4 days a week in Legal Recoveries & Litigation for a vehicle contract hire company, which sounds grander than it is and one of the reasons I am not doing a “this time tomorrow” article as the tale of endless e-mails and car registrations would bore you to tears.
How long have you attended Moorhouse Methodist Church? From the age of about 5 to 13’ish and then for the last 8 years. I am told my attendance at Sunday School was as a result of a summer holiday club that was on one year. My parents realised that the offer of subsequent Bible instruction for their youngest child / peaceful Sunday mornings was too good an offer to turn down and I was packed off on a Sunday morning with my collection money and my spence to spend in the corner shop on the way home.
On Desert Island Discs you get to choose 8 pieces of music and one book but as this is a church mag and we are short on space choose 3 hymns or worship music and one piece of other music you would want on your Island: 1. Happy Day (Tim Hughes) – my girls and I have been known to ‘pogo’ around the front room to this. 2. How great thou art – the louder the better! 3.My God is.. by The Transform Worship Band (Aka Pete and James) – this has to be on there as Thea adores it and regularly reqests “James Song” when we are in the car. (although seeing them play it live renders her speechless and overwhelmed by their presence!)
My guilty pleasure is Neil Diamond so I would have to have one of his tracks on my desert island. “Sweet Caroline” is a good, happy, sing-along tune. All together now “Sweet Caroline, ba ba ba, Good times never seemed so good, so good so good”.
You will be given a copy of the bible and the complete works of Shakespeare as you are left on the island. Choose one other and, be honest, would you ever really read the Complete works of Shakespeare? Choosing one book is really hard. There have been so many books that have been significant or memorable in my life. For my one book on a desert island I would have to flip a coin between On the Road by Kerouack or Harper Lee’s ‘To kill a mockingbird’....but then again there is Amstead Maupins ‘Tales of the City’ or child hood favourites like Little Women...this question is too hard! And no I very much doubt that even on a desert Island I would be reduced to having to read the complete works of Shakespeare. Sorry.
If you could take a snapshot from your memory to demonstrate happiness what would it be? Me, sat on a grass verge in the sunshine in Big Sur, California and catching out of the corner of my eye a Hummingbird hovering in front of a flower. Perfectly beautiful.
Dream holiday: Any holiday with the four of us, my Mum & Dad and my bro’ and his family. 10 of us. Lots of laughs, happy kids and love. I would love me and Andy to go back to San Francisco and Las Vegas one day – to do the great American road trip on Route 66. In fantasy time I would love to go to Peru.
So there you have it. A snap shot of me. Now tell me about you...To help you I will leave some Interview Question sheets in the foyer. Take one and tell us all about yourself. You don’t have to answer all the questions. You don’t have to write a lot. Make up your own questions if you want. Tell us your favourite memories of Moorhouse. You don’t need to type it out, just write it. Tell us something we don’t know. Tell us something we can share.
