Are you missing out?
Each month GRANTfinder’s Newsflash Service sends out an average of 50 e-mails to clients to alert them to activities such as the launch of a new fund, changes to a deadline, the release of an imminent deadline, or policy events such as the launch of a new consultation.

UGR490 (UK) ART FUND PRIZE
A single award of £100,000 is presented annually to a museum or gallery whose entry best meets the Prize criteria through a project completed or mainly undertaken in the previous calendar year. The Prize aims to recognise and stimulate originality and excellence in museums and galleries in the UK, and increase public appreciation and enjoyment of all they have to offer.
It is normally expected that applicants will be participants in the Museum Registration/Accreditation Scheme operated by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
The entry period for the 2009 Prize opened on 1 September 2008, and will close on 31 October 2008.
UGK060 (UK) BARING FOUNDATION - ARTS PROGRAMME
The 2009 Grants Programme is now open to application.
Registered charities and not-for-profit arts organisations in the UK with an annual expenditure of at least £50,000, working with refugees and asylum seekers or their host communities, can apply.
The maximum size of grant available is £75,000, which can be awarded for a duration of up to three years. Grants towards core costs are available to organisations that can demonstrate the impact their work is making on the quality of life of individuals or communities. The Foundation is particularly interested in work with newly arrived refugees, asylum seekers or their host communities. The Foundation does not specify precisely what types of activity it will support but some examples may include:
- facilitating the integration of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants into their host community;
- challenging media stereotypes; and
- creating opportunities for education, training or employment in the arts or another field.
The deadline for application is 12 December.

UGR470 (UK) COMMONWEALTH WRITERS' PRIZE
The objectives of this Prize are to promote new voices, reward achievement, encourage wider readership and greater literacy, and to increase understanding between different cultures.
Works entered into the 2009 Prize must have been written by a citizen of a Commonwealth country and have been first published between 1 January and 31 December 2008.
The deadlines for the 2009 Prize have been issued as follows: 15 November 2008 for entries published between 1 January and 15 November 2008; and 31 December 2008 for late entries published between 15 November and 31 December 2008.
UGJ220 (UK) COMPLETION FUND The 2008/09 deadlines have been announced under the Completion Fund - a fund designed to support short films that have already been shot but lack the funds to finish.
The £70,000 Fund will support up to 14 films in two funding rounds. The Fund aims to enable directors and producers to push their creative boundaries, develop new talent and to invest in short films that illustrate unique ideas and an innovative approach.
Individuals aged 18 years and over (national or resident of the UK) and companies registered and centrally managed in the UK are eligible to apply, provided they have made a short film requiring completion funding and which:
- on completion, will have a final running time of less than 12 minutes (exceptionally, films of up to 15 minutes may be considered);
- has been edited to a rough-cut or beyond, and is available for viewing on DVD;
- when completed, will be fully cleared for distribution or exhibition in all media without time limitation; and
- has not been screened publicly.
Deadlines are 10 November 2008 and March 2009 (exact date to be confirmed).
UGW110 (UK) ELEPHANT TRUST
The first 2009 round for submission of application to the Elephant Trust is now open.
Grants are available to artists, small organisations and galleries within the UK. The Trust's aim is to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when frustrated by lack of funds. The Trust supports projects that develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts.
The Trust normally award grants of up to £2,000, but larger grants may be considered.
The deadline for submission of application is 6 January 2009.
ZG4640 (EU Member State) MEDIA 2007 Media 2007 is intended to economically strengthen the audiovisual sector to enable it to play its cultural roles more effectively. It has as its objectives:
* To preserve and enhance European cultural and linguistic diversity and its cinematographic and audiovisual heritage.
* To increase the circulation and viewership of European audiovisual works inside and outside the EU.
* To strengthen the competitiveness of the European audiovisual sector in the framework of an open and competitive European market favourable to employment, including promoting links between audiovisual professionals.
Five Calls for Proposals were issued in September, providing support for the following:
* The development of on and offline interactive media works (deadlines: 17 November 2008 and 17 April 2009).
* The development of production projects - single projects, slate funding and slate funding second stage (deadlines: 17 November 2008 and 17 April 2009).
* Networking of cinemas screening European films (deadline: 31 October 2008).
* The promotion and market access of audiovisual festivals (deadlines: 31 October 2008 and 30 April 2009).
* The transnational distribution of European films (deadline: 15 November 2008).
UGB480 (England) NATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME
National and local voluntary and heritage sector organisations in England are eligible to apply for funding for projects which promote the conservation, understanding and enjoyment of the historic environment.
Funding is normally given for two or three years and is intended to provide support towards revenue costs. Grants are normally limited to a maximum of 50% of eligible costs and will be approximately £500,000 per annum.
Applications are currently invited under the theme of managing the historic environment. Applications concerned with providing access to, or conserving the historic environment will be considered exceptionally (as they were the themes of the 2007 bidding round).
The deadline for the receipt of applications is 14 November 2008.
UGM340 (UK) PRSF - BRITISH MUSIC ABROAD
The Performing Right Society Foundation (PRSF) British Music Abroad funding scheme offers a bursary to music artists and acts in the UK that have been chosen to showcase their talents at a music event abroad. The aim of the scheme is to support the export of new UK music. The funding available covers the costs of accommodation and travel.
The following costs are eligible for funding through the bursary:
* Return flights.
* Transport to/from airports.
* Hotel.
* A daily subsistence and local travel allowance (up to £20 per person per day).
* Visa applications (if applicable).
Applicants are expected to contribute at least 10% towards these costs. The bursary may not be used to fund promotional materials, equipment hire or purchase.
The remaining 2008 deadline is 7 November 2008. The Foundation will make a decision on the application within three weeks of the deadline.

UGR220 (UK) MCA MANAGEMENT AWARDS
Talented and creative consultancies within the public and private sector that can demonstrate winning case studies are eligible to enter this award scheme. Organisations should be able to demonstrate the problems faced by a client, the solutions developed and the ultimate benefit to their organisation.
Examples of award categories for the 2009 awards are as follows:
* Environment.
* Change management in the public sector.
* Change management in the private sector.
* Business strategy.
* International.
* Outsourcing consultancy.
* Technology.

All projects should have been completed within the last 18 months. Only one client organisation may be used per case study.
The cost of entry is £395 for Management Consultancies Association members and £3,000 for non-members.

Community Development
UIE430 (England) ACRE - COMMA FUND FOR COMMUNITY PROJECTS * NEW *
COMMA, the Community Aggregate Fund, is funded by the Aggregates Levy (charged on the quarrying of aggregates and crushed rock) and supports community-based projects. The Fund is administered by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) in 23 areas of England.
In each of these areas, applicants for funding are required to send their applications to the local Rural Community Council who will send selected applications to ACRE for final decision by 1 January 2009.
COMMA provides grants of between £3,000 and £20,000. Projects receiving over £7,500 must show evidence of match funding from the applicant or other sources.
There are five conditions to be satisfied for a project to be eligible, as follows:
* The community where the project is based is/has been affected by aggregates extraction or transportation of aggregates.
* The proposed project is within 10 kilometres of an aggregates extraction site, either current or disused.
* The proposed project must benefit the whole community or a section of the community, not an individual.
* The applicant must be a community organisation, a charity or a parish council.
* All project works funded by COMMA grants in 2008/09 must be capable of completion by 30 June 2009.
The deadline for applications for 2009 projects is 7 November 2008.

ZG4620 (EU Member State) CITIZENS FOR EUROPE (2007-2013)
This programme aims to make European citizens more aware of their duties as citizens and become actively involved in the process of European integration, developing a sense of belonging and a European identity.
A Call for Proposals has been announced which will offer structural support to public policy research organisations and civil society organisations at European level (Measure 2).
Eligible to apply are non-profit making and independent organisations which promote European citizenship.
Applications must be submitted by 17 November 2008.
UE6760 (UK) EMERGING LEADERS INTERNATIONAL FELLOWS PROGRAMME Under this annual programme, individuals are offered the opportunity to participate in a three-month seminar in New York on "the US and international voluntary sectors". Each fellowship covers the cost of tuition and includes a US$1,300 per month stipend for living expenses. Accommodation and travel expenses are also provided.
The next seminar for new applicants will take place in spring 2009. This will provide leadership training through applied research and professional mentorships with the aim of building up third sector capacity in the US and in the fellows' home countries.
The topics selected for 2009 are Community Foundations and Diaspora Philanthropy or Corporate Philanthropy.
The programme is open to practitioners and researchers under the age of 36 who are citizens of countries other than the US. Such applicants must hold a degree and preference is given to candidates with strong ties to a third sector institution and demonstrated research skills.
The application deadline for the 2009 programme, which was 11 September 2008, has been extended to 2 October 2008.
UGR660 (UK) JOANIES TRUST
The Trust awards grants to registered charities in the UK that support and involve young people aged 11 to 25 in community projects.
The Trust is particularly interested in projects that lead to employment, accreditation, further education and integration. Projects must be innovative and imaginative with strong evidence of how closely applicants have consulted with young people in developing the project.
The average size of grant is £1,000 and can be used for project, core and capital costs.
The deadline for applications is 31 December 2008.
UGY210 (England - Greater Manchester) MANCHESTER COMMUNITY FOUNDATION - GRASSROOTS * NEW * The Manchester Community Foundation is now accepting applications to the Grassroots Fund.
The purpose of the Grassroots Fund is to encourage and support small local informal voluntary and community groups and organisations, many of whom are dependent on volunteers.
Applicants may only receive up to a maximum of £5,000 over the lifetime of the programme which runs until 2011. For amounts of £900 and under, groups and organisations can apply using the Grassroots Fund Micro Grants which has a shorter application.
Eligible applicants include community groups and organisations aiming to improve circumstances for people in communities within one of the following boroughs: Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.
Funding can be used to support a wide range of activities including the purchase of equipment, such as a computer, oven or furniture.
Applications can be submitted at any time.
UGY000 (UK) NATIONAL AWARDS FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT * NEW *
Local authorities within the UK that are making an exceptional effort every day are invited to enter this award scheme. The awards reflect almost every relevant discipline from legal service to health and wellbeing. There are 17 categories of award, which include the following:
* Community Involvement.
* Local Strategic Partnership.
* Sustainable Environment.
* Standards & Ethics.
* Regeneration Award.

Shortlisted organisations will be invited to London to present their project. Awards will be presented on 25 March 2009 at the Grosvenor Hotel, London.
The deadline for receipt of applications to the 2009 awards is 3 October 2008.
UGF230 (UK) SUSTAINABLE CITY AWARDS
Businesses and public and voluntary sector organisations that can demonstrate sustainability and commitment to continual improvement in addressing environmental issues are eligible to enter this award scheme. The awards consist of nine specific categories which include the following:
* Sustainable & Responsible Finance.
* Climate Change.
* Sustainable Travel & Transport.
* Resource Conservation.
* Access to Goods & Services for Disadvantaged Communities.
* Sustainable Buildings.
* Sustainable Procurement.
* Environmental Management in SMEs.
* Sustainable Catering.
An overall winner will be chosen to receive the Sustainable City Trophy and an award will be made for excellence in Sustainable Leadership. All shortlisted entries will receive a framed certificate. Award winners and highly commended applicants will be awarded a specially commissioned trophy. The awards ceremony will take place on 19 February 2009 at Mansion House, London. All applicants are invited and may bring one additional guest.
The deadline for receipt of applications for the 2008/09 awards is 5 December 2008.
