Intro
The Macmillan Nurse Team and what they do
The Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialists offer care to people who have a life-threatening illness - this includes cancer, whether it is curable or not.
For many of us, cancer can be a frightening experience, yet in recent years, outstanding advances have been made in the treatment and care of people with cancer.
As Macmillan nurses, we are specially trained to be able to advise on the prevention, early diagnosis, care and treatment of cancer, plus aftercare. We are here to help you and those close to you cope through what may be a very difficult time. We can become involved at any stage in your illness.
Team Members
The team consists of three Macmillan nurses who are based at Milnrow Health Centre. We work Monday to Friday 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. except on public holidays.
How the Macmillan Team can help you
Provide information about:
- Your cancer diagnosis
- Treatment
- Benefits you may be able to claim for
- Others services and people who may be able to help you
In addition, we work with you and people involved in your care, to help you achieve your maximum potential. We may do this by:
- Treating any symptoms you may have (by working with your doctors)
- Advising you about relaxation therapies
- Talking with you about any fears and anxieties you may have about how the cancer affects you and those close to you.
Where can you meet a Macmillan Nurse
We can meet with you in a place that is convenient for you. This may be in one of the following places:
- Your home
- The hospital
- Milnrow Health Centre
- At one of our "drop in" Cancer Resource Centres.
