Description of Church
St Andrew's, Dearnley, has been administering to the spiritual needs of the population of Dearnley and Smithy Bridge for over 100 years, the church having been consecrated in 1895.
Not the easiest of places to find, the church is situated on Arm Road, hidden behind the buildings on New Road and reached by a narrow road at the side of the New Inn. The building itself stands on a hill and would be a prominent landmark were the view less obstructed!
There is a regular congregation of 70 to 80 communicant members, a small but active Sunday School with keen, eager and committed leaders, and we are led in our Sunday choral service by a our organist, playing our much admired pipe-organ, and choir.
The church is very much in the catholic tradition and each Choral Eucharist is accompanied by incense, bells and candles, yet we like to think that we are friendly and approachable to strangers and that our services are inclusive and accessible to all who enter our doors.
The services are led by our vicar, Sharon, assisted by the reader, Geoff, along with a number of servers, including some of our younger members, and six lay Eucharistic ministers who administer on a three weekly rota.
