The Probus Club of Middleton

Intro

Middleton Probus Club are seeking new members. We are a group of retired professional and business men, who meet fortnightly at the Norton Grange Hotel, Castleton, Rochdale, for two hours on Monday mornings.

Probus stands for The Association of Professional and Business Personnel and not poor Retired Old Boys Unfit for Service as some would have you believe. There are similar clubs all over the country and much further field. Many are offshoots from Rotary Clubs, indeed the Middleton Club is an offshoot of the Middleton Rotary Club, being formed in 1977.

We enjoy lectures and talks about various subjects. Recently we were entertained by John Wallace of Halifax talking about “Wartime Variety”. We are shortly to have a talk on “The World’s First Passenger Railway” by David Ratchford, one of our members and Canon Nick Feist to lecture on “More Church Matters”. We also enjoy outside visits, we recently had a guided tour round the City of Manchester Stadium, Middleton Parish Church and the Old Boar’s Head, shortly we are to visit the Bus Museum.

Our oldest and longest serving member recently died at the age of 98. If any retired or shortly to retire men desire longevity and require a new interest, why not contact the club secretary John Beeston on 0161 624 8424 for further details.
