Uganda Volunteer Partners

About us

Welcome to the Uganda Volunteer Partnership Project and thank you for showing an interest in us. We are a small new project founded by individuals with personal experience of volunteering – indeed, we continue to volunteer in Uganda and are still excited and enthusiastic about the amazing experience of Africa.

Many individuals in the West realise that they live privileged lives and willingly give time, money and skills to help those less fortunate. Equally, there are citizens in poor countries who dedicate themselves to the development of family, community and country, looking forward to the day when they can discard the label ‘Third-world’.

Our small project seeks to form a partnership between these two groups of people - the concept of ‘giver’ and ‘receiver’ should be abandoned, and replaced by the notion of ‘partners’ who share talents and resources according to their means and abilities.

It is false to believe that the West has experienced development simply because of our hard work and determination. It is equally false to think that development in Africa will occur simply by sending billions of dollars in aid - solutions are never that simple. The quote below is, I believe, from Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, the founder of the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh:

Charity is not the answer to poverty

It only helps poverty to continue

It creates dependency and takes away an individual's initiative to break through the wall of poverty

The unleashing of energy and creativity in each human being is the only answer to poverty

We firmly believe that change is possible. Without doubt Africa will be developed by Africans, but wouldn’t it be a thrill to feel we could help instead of being mere observers?

This is the aim of our small project. Help in education and community support will be our strategy. The challenge is  ......

Will YOU be join us??????
