Apprentice Teaching Assistant (L2) - Meanwood Primary School (Rochdale Council)

Meanwood Primary School is a two form entry school (60 children per year group) and also has a Nursery Class. We are situated in the Spotland area of Rochdale. Ofsted 'Good'.

To act as a responsible adult and assist with the supervision, personal care, welfare and keeping safe of individuals and/or groups of children and their environment under the direction/instruction of teaching and/or senior staff, inclusive of assisting with resources and basic classroom management techniques to support their learning.

It is expected at Apprentice level that the postholder will work under the direction, guidance and direct supervision of the classroom teacher to support access to learning by;

  • Helping to keep children safe
  • Providing support for learning activities
  • Supporting the children’s development
  • Contributing to positive relationships
  • Providing effective support for your colleagues
  • Supporting children’s play and learning
  • Supporting a child with disabilities or special educational needs
  • Contributing to the moving and handling of children with mobility difficulties
  • Preparing the classroom
  • Promoting behaviour

Secondary duties will include:

  • The postholder may reasonably be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility that may be allocated from time to time
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, particularly in response to the changing role of Authority/School, as may be determined by the Authority/School (or nominated representative) from time to time in consultation with the postholder and, if he/she so wishes, with his/her trade union representative

  • Understanding of and willingness to use basic technology, eg: computer, photocopier, whiteboard
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Understand classroom roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with all pupils and colleagues
  • Ability to work within the school’s ethos and provide a positive role mode
  • Have ability to provide clerical/admin support to the Teacher/Department
  • Knowledge and understanding of how ICT can support learning
  • Awareness of school curriculum
  • The ability to establish fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with children and young people
  • The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with children, young people and colleagues
  • The ability to recognise and respect the contribution that parents and carers can make to the development and wellbeing of children and young people
  • A commitment to collaborative and co-operative working with colleagues
  • The ability to organise and manage learning activities in ways which keep children safe
  • Evidence of commitment to professional dev
