Nema is an engineering and manufacturing company with a 40 strong workforce, founded in 1954 in Norden originally as Nordale Springs, we have invested in technologies over the past 10 years and now have the capabilities to Design manufacture and Test electric motors for aircraft platforms, which include, existing commercial and military to brand new all electric and hybrid aircraft platforms.


Nema is a key supplier to companies such as, Airbus, Martin Baker (Ejector Seats), Collins Aerospace (Raytheon) and Safran.

The business has a successful training programme which started 30 years ago with our very first apprentice who is now a senior Manager at Nema. Many of our apprentices go on to HNC level, one of which has now completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering”.


Rochdale Training recruits our Apprentices who have “off the job training” for the first year, this training is modelled to fit in with our company requirements including electrical, mechanical and spring making skills. We rely on the skills and expertise of our skilled workforce many of which have come through an apprenticeship.


We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate, we are looking for a young person to become an apprentice trained skilled mechanical engineer, CNC machine operator, you will be trained in all aspects of engineering.


We have a very well-equipped modern Engineering workshop.


  • Turning CNC and Manual manufacturing small to medium components to very accurate tolerances.
  • Milling CNC and manual working on 4 axis machines with multiple tool changing and probing capabilities.
  • Grinding CNC and manual, grinding parts to micron tolerances using digital measuring equipment.
  • Electro-discharge wire cutting machinery cutting intricate parts to very close tolerances.
  • Additive manufacturing 3D printing.
  • Solidwork 3D modelling and CadCam machining.


We are looking for a bright individual, with a passion for engineering and a desire to learn.


  • Minimum of 5 GCSE`s with a 4 or above, including Maths and English and preferably one science


We offer the advanced (4 year) apprenticeship.


  • Year 1; 12 months off the job training to NVQ level 2 based at Rochdale training association.
  • Year 2-3; NVQ 3 and 4.
  • Year 4, HNC qualification.


Starting salary: £4.15 per hour, reviewed every 12 months.


Starting Date: Immediately.


Working week: At workplace: 38 Hours per week, Mon-Thurs 7.30-5.30 (4-day week) this may vary when attending Rochdale Training Centre.
