Details:

The annual Boxing Day walk up to the top of Brown Wardle will start at 10am on Tuesday 26 December 2017.

This walk was started 43 years ago by a Cub from Wardle Cub Pack who needed to complete his Gold Arrow by organising an outing for his Six. The leader who accompanied the Six thought it was a great idea to encourage villagers to walk off the Christmas excesses, so the following year it started as a village event and villagers have been meeting up to do the walk ever since.

Walkers should come dressed appropriately for the assent to 1,000ft above sea level and assume it will be muddy. Afterwards, walkers are invited to call into Wardle Scout HQ for a bacon butty, a cup of tea and a chat.

Leaders from Wardle Scout Group normally cook two hundred bacon butties to satisfy hungry walkers. This year one of Wardle Scouts, 14 year old Harley Horton, will be assisting in the cooking by completing a challenge set by leaders to cook one hundred of those bacon butties.

Harley Horton's sponsored Bacon Butty cook will raise funds for him to go to the World Scout Jamboree in 2019 in the USA. Harley needs to raise nearly £4000 to attend. Please support his efforts via his fundraising page, which can be found on the link below.
