The Royal Toby Hotel
Manchester Road
Rochdale

Details:

Join Zoe Sharp and Martin Edwards on an historical tour of crime fiction, its rise to popularity and the enduring interest in all things murder, kidnap and conspiracy.

Martin Edwards is president of the Detection Club, series consultant to the British Library’s Crime Classics, and winner of the Poirot Award for his outstanding contribution to the crime genre. His titles include The Coffin Trail, The Golden Age of Murder, The Story of Classic Crime in 100 Books, and Gallows Court.

Zoë Sharp's first award-winning crime thriller series featuring ex-soldier turned bodyguard, Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Fox, was published after she received death-threats in the course of her work as a photo-journalist. She has now written numerous further instalments in that series, as well as standalone novels, the first of a Lake District-set trilogy, and a collaboration with espionage thriller author, John Lawton.

Her books and short stories have been used in Danish school textbooks, inspired an original song and music video, and been optioned for TV and film. Lee Child said: ‘If Jack Reacher were a woman, he’d be Charlie Fox.’

Suitable for: Ages 14+

The festival box office is located at Touchstones Rochdale. Open Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 5pm.

Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival is aimed at celebrating and promoting the Maskew Collection of classic literature and philosophy at Rochdale Central Library, encouraging people to engage with books and ideas. Rochdale couple, Annie and Frank Maskew, met in Rochdale Library in the 1950s and shared a passion for reading and thinking. They left a sum of money to be used on resources and events related to literature and philosophy to ensure classic works are available for future generations.

Entry fee: Book in advance - £8
