On Saturday 21 December 1844, the Rochdale Pioneers first opened their shop to the community, selling pure foods at affordable prices just before Christmas during a period of mass unemployment and hardship.
Join the staff and supporters of the Co-operative Heritage Trust in marking the 175th year since the modern movement began in Rochdale. An evening opening exactly 175 years since the first opening night, just before Christmas in 1844.
Music from Littleborough and Wardle Brass Band, drinks and festive treats as well as an opportunity to get closer to the Pioneers through access to records from our collections.
This event does not require booking and is FREE / suitable for all ages.
