DETAILS:

Rochdale Science Association in partnership with Wardleworth Community Centre presents Rochdale Science Extravaganza 2019.

A day to inspire the young, adults and elderly during British Science Week.

We've got the best back from previous year's event. Fun-Science theatrical science show returns for the 3rd time, the exotic Zoo2 U, and the array of stalls! The Mobile Science lab, and the Planetarium to gaze upon the night sky is coming.

One of our own projects, the biggest one yet, 'The Walking On Water' show, designed by PhD student Miss Hasina Begum. The show will be a spectacle of a sport mashup, neat football tricks by BASA FC and Wardleworth FC, Rochdale Thai Boxing Club, and a show of Boxing by professional boxer Billy the Kid. Miss Begum is part of the CDT Polymer Centre at the University of Sheffield and is completing her Doctoral studies in Acoustics and Mechanical Engineering. Miss Begum will be bringing many other experimental activities such as polymer slime, making bath bombs and a sound haptics device, which uses sound interaction and touch sensation for computer applications.

Focused on Women in Science we've put together a question and answer stall. This will be your opportunity to meet and question women working within the field of Science, from Clinical Biochemists, Acoustic Engineers, Science Tutors, Biomechanics, Biologists and many more.

We will also be hosting presentations by Hajrah Matlub a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, and Habiba Begum a Bioscientist working for Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. Jacqueline Boylan aka Wacky Jacky of Fun-Science, will present a show dubbed 'princess science', looking at stereotypes of what women like and how to appeal to them, very tongue in cheek.

Everybody is welcome. All children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.
