Event: Historic Canal Boat Trip from Littleborough via Rochdale to Slattocks

Wednesday 29 May 2019
10am

Rochdale Canal
Boarshaw Road
Middleton
M24 2NJ

DETAILS:

On 29 May 2019 at 10AM 'Hazel', a 105-year-old narrow boat, will set out from Durn Lock, Littleborough. She will be towed by 92 year old motor boat 'Forget me Not'.

Travelling past the picturesque Clegg Hall the boats will pick their way through the impressive mills of Rochdale to finish the day's journey near the Hopwood Arms at the little settlement of Slattocks.

Arrival at Slattocks is estimated at about 6PM, though timing is always a bit approximate on canal journeys. Please note that every effort will be made to stick to the planned itinerary but there are sometimes circumstances beyond the charity's control such as water shortages.

The boats belong to the Wooden Canal Boat Society, a registered charity, and will be captained by Chris Leah, a qualified trainer, assisted by another WCBS volunteer.

The captain and his mate will ensure a safe and pleasant passage of this wonderful waterway and, for those who wish to be hands on, will be happy to show their guests how to steer Hazel and work the locks safely.

This is a rare opportunity to enjoy working a pair of historic wooden boats along the fantastic Rochdale Canal.

Travel back from Slattocks to Littleborough is easy, it's just 2 stops on the train from Castleton, which is walkable or you can get a number 17 bus.

We offer half price for children under 16. To get this you'll have to pay full price but we'll send a refund. We will require anyone under 18 to wear a lifejacket.

Entry fee: £12
