Crimble Croft Community Centre in Heywood are hosting a 'first aid in youth mental health' course this coming Thursday and Friday. The course is primarily aimed at people working with teenagers and is the first of its kind to be held at the centre. Manager Louise Kershaw says: "We are delighted that White Dog Training has chosen us as the venue for this course."
Mental health and wellbeing are at the forefront of every ones mind at the moment and it is important to be able to provide help and reassurance to young people especially. MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID COURSE
To be held at Crimble Croft Community Centre on 20th and 21st Feb 9.30am till 3pm.
This two day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider, giving you:
- An in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing.
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.
- Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress.
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening.
- Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s through self-help sites, their place of learning, the NHS, or a mix – engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate.
- Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive.
- Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing.
