Event: Heritage Open Days - St John the Baptist RC Church

Saturday 19 September 2020 - Sunday 20 September 2020
1pm - 3pm

St John the Baptist RC Church
Dowling Street
Rochdale
OL11 1EX

DETAILS:

Every year in September, England’s largest voluntary cultural event returns as a celebration of local and national heritage. Co-ordinated nationally by the Heritage Open Days National Partnership and locally by Link4Life, Rochdale takes part by opening the doors to various historic buildings throughout the borough that are usually closed to the public or charge an entrance fee.

Local buildings full of history will be open and free to explore, many of which include differing age, style and function across the borough.

St John the Baptist RC church contains one of the largest pieces of artwork in the North West.

The mosaic that surrounds the high altar depicting Christ the King is dramatic and thought provoking. The church itself is iconic with its large white and blue dome.

No booking is required to attend this heritage open day.

Covid-19 considerations:

Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, this year's Heritage Open Days programme has been reduced. This event will run in line with local and national government guidelines at the time of the festival. Social distancing will be in place at all times as well as a one way system in operation, separate entry and exit doors both with sanitiser stations, 2 meter markings on floor and display stands with history will be available however there is no access to usual folders with additional information.

Additional Information:

The church is 150 metres from Rochdale train station. There is a Metro Tram stop outside the church and the 474 bus from Bury stops close by at the railway station. There is a large car park at the side of the church on Dowling Street, only available at weekends.
