As the annual Lights Switch On won’t be possible this year, fantastic volunteers have come up with an alternative idea of something they can deliver to the community safely without social contact - a Santa Express.
Father Christmas will be travelling through Whitworth village in a custom built sleigh between 6pm and 8pm on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December. He will be sledding between Broadley and Shawforth and calling at most of the residential areas on the way, driving slowly to allow families to wave as he passes by.
It would be impossible to cover every single street, but the volunteers have worked hard to ensure that you won’t have far to go to see him drive by.
Children who live in Whitworth are encouraged to take part in a colouring competition ahead of the event. Draw and colour a picture of Santa on his sleigh and make sure to include your name, age, address, and a contact telephone number for your responsible adult. You can use a drawing app or draw the traditional way and scan it in, you can even make a moving picture in scratch or a similar application if you wish. Email entries should be submitted to tlcchristmas2020@gmail.com by Monday 23 November.
