Humans love repetition, ever hear a song, and then play it again and again – we do that because we like the feeling it produces – it relaxes us, calms us or lifts us. Sometimes if we are doing boring repetitive tasks, we feel happy – but why? The answer is distraction – when we are ‘doing’ even when we might be very anxious the ‘doing’ dominates our thoughts and other maybe less nice thoughts are banished for a while or maybe still present but much less felt.
During the session Creative Health will provide some pictures of paintings for us to copy. We are going to pick one area of that painting and we are going to cut into any shape we wish. Then we are going to repeat that shape in pencil, on paper across the whole sheet. Then we will go over the pencil with fine-liners and then we will fill in the pattern with watercolours.
Entry fee: £7 for a full ticket or £5 if you are bringing your own materials
