Date published: 26 May 2017

The Bird at Birtle won the Best Small Commercial Project at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket ground on Friday 19 May.

The restaurant, owned by Andrew Nutter, opened on 20 June 2016 at the premises on Rochdale Old Road, was also a finalist in the Best Change of Use to an Existing Building or Conversion category.

The project team for the Bird at Birtle was made up of H Bell & Sons (Rochdale) Ltd, C J Partnership and Nutters Restaurant.

At the launch, Builders H Bell and Sons said they were proud to have redeveloped the building and happy that local traders were a priority, whilst designers, CJ Partnership Ltd, said they were happy to have been the designers, adding ‘the new building really is cutting edge’.

The LABC Awards evening was presented for the fourth year running by BBC Radio Manchester's Chelsea Norris and over 530 guests from the construction industry were entertained by three-piece band Silvermoon Jazz and a fun casino rounded off the evening.

All regional winners automatically qualify for the Grand Finals which will be taking place on Friday 10 November at the Westminster Park Plaza in London.
