D&W Cars sponsors Jockey FC Sunday league team

Date published: 06 October 2017

Castleton-based D&W Cars has sponsored the Jockey FC - the Sunday league team for the Horse and Jockey pub on Well’ith’Lane, Rochdale - and the team now has a new sky-blue kit.

D&W director Stuart Wild revealed he has close ties with the pub, as until around five years ago, it was run by his father for 15 years. He was recently approached by some of the locals, which resulted the new football kit for the team.

He commented: “Both Dave Reed and James Conway have been quite helpful throughout. It is a good thing for the community and the lads. It is helping a team who receive little to no funding and find it difficult to get by.

He added: “They look the part thanks to their new kit.”

One of The Jockey’s three managers, Dave Reed, said: “We are in our second season now. We have a good team who work well.

“D&W sponsored out kit, which we really appreciate as it is hard to run a team. Stuart’s a good lad and his heart is in the Horse and Jockey.

“Everyone contributes to keep the team going and the team are really backed up by their wives and girlfriends. As it is a family run pub, the kids get stuck in too.”

The team is also managed by James Conway and Paul Burns, with additional support from Dave’s wife Alice, Graham Mitchell and Darren Lewis.

The team will be playing in a quarter final cup match on Sunday at Clayton Playing Fields in Oldham where they face FC Lowerhouse, an Oldham-based team.

D&W Cars was founded by current directors John Dawson and Stuart in 2014. The two of them started with a small site in Heywood and quickly established a reputation for quality cars and honest pricing. In only two years, the business was large enough to move to its current premises on Nixon Street.
