New market launch goes down a treat

Date published: 23 August 2018

The new outdoor market enjoyed its first day trading on Saturday - twenty-two independent businesses traded on The Butts, the location of Rochdale’s Riverbank Market.

Some of these are familiar faces, including Peter Jordan, ‘The Egg Man’, with other traders there specifically for the event such as The Travelling Pizza Company and R&M Fine Chocolates.

The market was bustling, with Peter having to send off for more eggs halfway through the day.

Riverbank Market will now be trading on The Butts on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and will welcome traders old and new.

One of the new additions is local business Brewzuki, an independent coffee bike using only fresh and local produce. The beans they use are roasted just down the road, and the milk comes from a local dairy, making it a delicious coffee and a responsible one, available at very reasonable prices.

Market Asset Management has worked closely with Rochdale Council to design a small but beautifully formed food hall in the old Santander Bank and a new outdoor proposition with a mix of gazebos. These will soon be joined by a small number of bespoke kiosks that will complete the scene on the Butts and the town centre as a whole.

The food hall will open with a launch later this year.
