New retailer to take over 20,000 sq ft in the Wheatsheaf Centre

Date published: 08 November 2018

A new retailer will be welcomed to the Wheatsheaf Centre later this month, proving that Rochdale’s town centre has plenty of merit.

Around 30 jobs will be created as Bargain Buys, a Poundstretcher brand, will occupy the former Wilko ground floor unit, one of the largest spaces in the centre, opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10am on Monday 19 November.

Executive Chairman, Nadir Lalani, commented: “We are pleased to be opening a brand-new store to the people of Rochdale with loads of fantastic branded products, all at bargain prices.

“The team is working hard to deliver an outstanding shopping experience, great service, and an enjoyable shopping environment for all our new customers. We are expecting massive queues for our Opening Day Only Specials, so come early to catch the bargains.”

Having kept the news under wraps for some time, Wheatsheaf Centre Manager Mark Foxley can finally reveal just how thrilled about the new addition his team are.

He said: “We are delighted to welcome the new store to the centre and look forward to supporting the team in this new and exciting venture. We are all working hard to bring the Wheatsheaf back into the community and play our part in the town centre development as a whole."

Town Centre Manager Paul Ambrose is equally elated about bringing an empty unit back into use.

He added: “This unit being quickly snapped up is another positive sign that the town centre is heading in the right direction. We welcome this as an early Christmas present."

After trading in the centre for many years, Wilko closed its doors in the Wheatsheaf September, following the expiry of the lease.

Poundstretcher is the UK’s leading variety discount retailer for quality food, toiletries, garden essentials and home-ware brands.

Rochdale is the 35th store the retail giant has taken over this year.
