2018’s Rochdale 30 revealed

Date published: 28 November 2018

Thirty of Rochdale’s finest businesses have been revealed at a special ‘Rochdale 30’ tea and cake reception at the Town Hall on Monday (26 November).

Rochdale 30 is part of Rochdale Loves Small Business, the borough’s celebration of Small Business Saturday, an annual celebration of independent businesses, which highlights the important role they play in their community and encourages people to use them.

The campaign, headed by local accountant Ruth Pringle, began in 2016 and proved so successful, it has returned each year since.

Each selected business features in a campaign, with a different one being profiled each day, in the run-up to Small Business Saturday on 1 December.

During the reception, speeches were given by Mayor of Rochdale, Mohammed Zaman, and Richard Tang, chairman and founder of Zen Internet.

The Mayor spoke about the contribution small and micro-businesses make to both the economy and local community, whilst Mr Tang shared his own experience of starting a business.

Addressing the 30, Mr Tang said: “My one piece of advice to everyone here is stick at it. Keep your vision, focus, make the sacrifice. If things go well and you’re lucky, you’ll have a successful business that you can really be proud of.

Ms Pringle added: “We had some wonderful words of encouragement from Richard Tang and the Mayor. The council was great as always in organising the reception and providing a room at the Town Hall.”
