Date published: 01 March 2019

Watch out Willy Wonka, a new sweet shop offering all manner of traditional and international sweets and candies has opened up in Rochdale centre.

Located in the former Ellen Smith travel shop on Newgate, Candy Kabin opened to the public on Monday 25 February and is run by Rumaan Saeed, 20, and his mum, Asifa, who both live in Rochdale.

In addition to offering an entire wall of pick and mix sweets, the shop boasts delectable desserts and milkshakes, plus American chocolates, candies and soft drinks.

Rumaan said: “We’ve not seen anything like this anywhere else in town, with all kinds of sweets under one roof. We wanted to do something for the college students and really, the shop is a culmination of several ideas brought together.

“We’ve had a great response since we’ve opened.”

Paul Ambrose, of Rochdale Town Centre Management, said: “It is great to see a vacant unit brought back into use, especially by a family business. They are definitely bringing something new to the town centre, and I am sure business will be a huge success.

“Whether you’re after a traditional sweet, such as aniseed balls, or something newer like the America’s favourite Reese’s, this shop has exactly what you need.”
